Fragments of Simon Simonian's Life
Back in our days Simon Simonian was known in Khoshmat for his bravery and courageous heart. One day Simon and the women of his family went to the field to dig ditches. Simon left the group for a while and moved to the ravine to change his clothes. The sun went down and the women were about to go back to the village. At that moment six armed Kurds were walking along the avenue. Suddenly they noticed these defenseless women walking without men. They approached the group. Taking their food and the tools, they tried to immediately run away. At that moment Simon rushed to his family holding his pitchfork in his left hand and shouting: "What do you want, my friends? If you’re poor or hungry we promise to help you, but you won’t get anything by using force."
The leader of the Kurds shouted: "The Kurds never beg for alms. We get what we want through violence." Upon hearing this announcement, Simon threatened to kill all of them with his pitchfork unless they gave him their weapons. Then he ordered his little brother to disarm the bandits. Bringing all of them to Khoshmat, Simon introduced them to Melik Hagop Kaloian. After preaching to the Kurds, Melik released them. He even exhorted Simon to give them back their weapons, but Simon was adamant about his decision and kept the weapons for himself.
