PART III

Chapter 6 : The Important Initiatives of the Tbrotsasirats Association of Khoshmat

From its origin to the horrific days of 1915 the Tbrotsasirats Association has supported the school of the village by donating money to the institution every single year. This information is authentic and can be found in the description of the Tbrotsasirats Association.

To give you some idea about this association we will bring a few facts to your attention:
1917: 4300 dollars: donation to charity.
1918: 200 dollars: donation for self-defense.
1918: 200 dollars: donation to charity for orphans.
1933: 40 dollars: donation for the legal case of Archbishop Turian;
250 dollars: donation to the people of Khoshmat living in Syria.
1936: 2500 dollars: donation for building 4 houses in Nubarashen.
1938: 1500 dollars: donation to charity for immigration;
600 dollars: donation to local schools;
100 dollars: donation for Zoravar Antranig, etc.

The Tbrotsasirats Association of Khoshmat did their best to perpetuate Nor Khoshmat (New Khoshmat) in Soviet Armenia. Thanks to the efforts of the Armenian Benevolent Union, four two-story houses were built in Nubarashen, in the district called Nor Palu-Khoshmat (New Palu Khoshmat.) There follows some correspondence written by the Armenian Benevolent Union to the Tbrotsasirats Association of Khoshmat.

Dear Gentlemen,
We have received your letter of March 17th.
According to the information we have, the next group of Armenian immigrants will leave in 1938 and not this year. Obtaining permission from France in regard to our compatriots’ transportation seems impossible. Anyway, it’s important to make such an attempt in Paris. Hence, please kindly send a letter to your compatriots living in France and ask them to turn to the Armenian Refugee Commission or Armenian General Benevolent Union. We also informed the office operating in Paris about your request.

Dear Gentlemen,
Yesterday the Armenian representative of the Union, Haygazun Karageozian, sent a telegram which states that within the framework of the construction project undertaken in Nubarashen, construction works will also be carried out in Nor Khoshmat. Four apartments will be built in this area, each of them having a kitchen, balcony, basement and vegetable garden.
Of course, you will be delighted with this information as well. This news will convince you to make even more sacrifices for the sake of pursuing your patriotic goals.
The telegraph states that work is going in full swing and at the end of this year all the institutions of Nubarashen will be already built.
We wish you success
With Regards,

Dear Gentlemen,
Your letter of April 11th has been well received.
The Armenian General Benevolent Union requires 1250 dollars for the construction of each apartment which will be built in Nubarashen. This amount was doubled when it turned out that the Compatriotic Union intended to build a minimum of five apartments in this area.
At this moment the Government of Armenia is busy building houses consisting of either four or eight apartments. If you want to build a house consisting of four apartments on your behalf, the Armenian General Benevolent Union will expect you to give only 2500 dollars despite the fact that even 5000 dollars is not enough for the construction of one house. The same applies to the case if you want to build two houses. You will pay only 5000 dollars. The remaining costs will be covered by the Armenian General Benevolent Union.
We wish you success
With Regards,

Dear Gentlemen,
On Saturday, 5th of May, we had the pleasure to welcome two of your representatives—Mr. Garabed Klanian and Avak Simonian.
We verbally discussed the matters we had already touched upon in our previous letters. We also discussed the importance of our role in the Government of Armenia in regards both to the already built districts of Nubarashen and the ones planned to be built in future. We are delighted that your representatives were pleased with our explanations.
We sent a letter to the Central Board of Directors through the Post Office expressing our desire to have apartments in the district of Nor Palu built on behalf of the Tbrotsasirats Association of the village Palu Khoshmat. We have already paid 2500 dollars for two of them.
We hope to get a satisfactory response so that we can immediately start the project.
Please find enclosed the official receipt.
We wish you success in your patriotic endeavors.
With Regards
