Apkar Simonian

This honorable man was also one of the survivors of the massacres. At present, he lives in Marseille. He has written long memoirs on the massacres in Khoshmat, similar to other descriptions. When all the Armenians were gathered in the square of Kharaman in order to be either slaughtered or exiled, a Kurdish woman pitied young Apkar and hid him in a box. Living with the Hussein family for a long time after, Apkar forgot his mother tongue.

At the end of the war, a woman gave him a letter which said that he had money to receive from America, that it had been sent to Kharpert through the bank of Mezre. This naïve boy told Hussein about it and they both went to Kharpert to receive the money. When the bank officer was convinced that Apkar was a member of Simonian family, he told him that all the Simonians, including Apkar’s mother lived in his house. They immediately said good-bye to Hussein. Apkar joined his family and left for Marseille afterwards.
